Arrow Maze, sometimes called Signpost, requires careful navigation through all cells in the grid. Simply uncover the order from 1 to 64, following the arrows from one point to the next.

  • Write numbers in arrows to show the sequence to follow from cell 1 to 64.
  • Each arrow points in the direction of the next cell, but it is not necessarily adjacent.
  • Given numbers indicate that arrow’s position in the sequence.
  • You will visit all cells.

In 2008, Amtrak wanted to raise awareness about the history and benefits of rail travel. They declared National Train Day to fall on the Saturday closest to May 10th each year. May 10th is the anniversary of the pounding of the Golden Spike in Provost, Utah, which completed the first transcontinental railroad. Amtrak discontinued their endorsement of the holiday in 2015, but rail fans continue to celebrate.

Featured Puzzle: Paint by Pairs #2 – Kakizome

I love finding unique holidays to theme a puzzle around. In Japan, Kakizome takes place on the second of January. It’s meant to celebrate one of the major traditional arts – calligraphy. This practice began as a court event during the Heian era during the late 8th century. They would make ink with water drawn on the morning of the first day, then write short aspirational poetry for the year.

It’s the first day of Spring! A time of renewal, when we start seeing beautiful wildflowers, and a lot of young animals. I hear this has something to do with the birds and the bees, so that seems as good a theme for a puzzle as any.
