Featured Puzzle – Tetroid #1

Spring is coming, a time of renewal. So why not introduce a new puzzle? Today, we have Tetroid, a grid division puzzle. It’s a little like L.I.T.S., except that there are no predefined regions, and you’re using all 5 tetromino shapes.

  • Divide the grid into regions of exactly 4 cells each, creating a tetromino.
  • Tetrominos may be rotated or reflected as needed.
  • Tetrominoes that share an edge may not be the same type.
  • Some cells are shaded. These obstacles do not belong to any tetromino.

Featured Puzzle: Chain Sudoku #1

I learned about Chain Sudoku puzzles fairly recently, and thought they’d make for a visually cool presentation. This form was popularized under the trademarked name Strimko, which was invented in 2008 by the Grabarchuk family. They’re similar to Jigsaw Sudoku puzzles, with jumbled regions, except they are not necessarily orthogonally contiguous.

Featured Puzzle: Nondango #1 – Rubber Ducky Hunt

Happy Rubber Ducky Day! I swear, there’s an internet holiday for just about everything. The first patent for a rubber duck was by Landon Smart Lawrence in 1928. But the version we know and love today was designed in the 1940s by sculptor Peter Ganine. He sold millions, but of course, popularity really soared thanks to Ernie on Sesame Street.

Today, we’re retheming a Japanese puzzle called Nondango. Dango is a popular street food, small balls made from rice flour skewered on bamboo sticks. But I thought instead of simply shading circles, we could hide some rubber ducks.

Featured Puzzle: Verbal A-line-ment #1

I wanted to work at least one word puzzle in this month, so here’s a pretty simple one. Place all the letter pairs into the circles so that they spell six 6-letter words, reading across the line to the opposite colored circle. All of the words include the letters ON in the center.

I’ve included the first word to get you started. Happy Blonde Brownie Day!
